La Fortezza

La Fortezza (Italian for “the fortress”) is a conceptual seating solution designed to be an affront to comfort and organic structure.

Similar to the imposing brutalist architecture built throughout the Cold War era, this chair invokes a strikingly geometric and immovable aesthetic that will persuade people to approach with wonder. However, those same machined proportions and implied weight are what allow the chair to not only visually dominate its environment, but invoke gradual, physical discomfort the longer one sits. Such is the user experience for most industrial school desks, from which La Fortezza takes further inspiration. Integrated storage cubbies and simplistic materials still provide a minimal, yet functional mood. But how long can one truly stay attached to something that is void of warmth.

While La Fortezza is not completely hostile, it still does not suffer hospitality.
