Why Rebrand?
In Summer of 2020, after 88 years of existence, the Washington Redskins football team finally chose to change its derogatory name due to overwhelming pressure from activists, sponsors, and corporate retailers. The team proceeded its 2020–2021 season as the “Washington Football Team” with plans for a full rebrand in time for the 2021–2022 season.
Design Objectives
Rename the team.
Redesign new logo and wordmark.
Design updated uniforms while maintaining enough of the team’s history.
Design a simplistic, yet powerful 90th anniversary patch for 2022 season.
CONCEPT
New Mascot
“Red Wolves” was the most highly-voted name by fans on all online polls. Canine mascots are very rarely used in pro sports so it will help the team’s brand stand out.
Mood Board
Tradition and togetherness are the key words of this franchise’s brand new attitude. Every wolf needs a pack, every soldier needs a unit, every player needs a team, and every fan needs a family.
Color Palette
The team colors for the Washington Football Team are burgundy, gold, and white. This color palette utilizes traditional and modern variations of those colors for a universally recognizable aesthetic.

ANNIVERSARY PATCH
90th Anniversary Patch
This patch for the 2022 season is designed to reflect the team's classic and established aesthetic. The bold, beveled numbers read easily and communicate the team’s longevity.
TEAM UNIFORMS
Home + Away
Home and away uniforms will adopt a modern twist of the team’s 70th anniversary throwback uniform (see Mood Board) from 2002.
Color Rush
All-white and vibrant gold will be used for Color Rush uniforms with the red stars and stripes of the D.C. state flag incorporated onto the shoulder sleeves for an added sense of local pride.
Nocturnal
A variation of the Color Rush uniforms that emphasizes darker shades and gradients of primary colors instead of tertiary ones. This uniform will be saved for night-time games—particularly Monday Night, Thursday Night, and Sunday Night Football games on NBC.
Salute to Service
This uniform would be worn by players and sold to fans on the Red Wolves’ designated Salute to Service home game . The design doubles as a throwback jersey with the military camo treatment .
